During Samsung Tech Day in 2022, a memory development roadmap was introduced, which stated the testing of ddr6 ram in 2024 and the commercial release of it in 2026.
Unfortunately, at Samsung's Memory Technology Day (MTD), held October 20, 2023 in Santa Clara, California. Tae-Young Terry Oh, Executive VP and Head of DRAM Design briefly talked about the production of ddr5 and ddr6 ram. He introduced that by the end of 2027 ddr5 ram speeds could reach up to 8800Mbps, while ddr6 is now projected to launch at the beginning of 2028 with even higher speeds. We expect the ddr6 ram speed to reach around 12800Mbps.
Thus, we can say that the ddr5 ram lifecycle will be long so it is after all worth upgrading to ddr5 now.
