Now why was Patrick Bateman a psychopath? The film was based in the 1990s. Where people wanted to be the best, corporate greed, wealth, and prestige were all the characteristics of the 90’s. If we dive into the book American Psycho, we find a little bit about Bateman’s father. His father wanted Patrick to be disciplined, have a love for wealth, and have hate for the poor. Bateman couldn’t live up to his father’s hopes and started developing psychopathic behaviors. His life was influenced a lot by his father and not having the ability to make his own decisions..
